Elmau castle is located at the foot of the Bavarian alps. The castle hotel was built 100 years ago by Johannes Müller-Elmau a Protestant theologian and philosopher and critical of modern individualistic civilization. The location breathes ‘German spirit’ and was known as a hideaway for intellectuals, artists and art lovers. The hotel cultivated a special community spirit – in some respects more a Youth Hostel than a hotel. The German comedian Loriot came regularly to Elmau to write pieces and hd the ideas for wonderful sketches upon the gala diners and house concerts celebrated on location.
Today the hotel is completely renewed and the freaky spirit of the castle is history. We can hope that the politicians have an inspiring time there and the extremely expensive event leads to results for a better world. That would be appropriate to the place.
