The 8 July 2013 marks the 175th birthday of the aviation pioneer Ferdinand von Zeppelin, who founded the Zeppelin Airship company. On 2 July 1900, Zeppelin made the first flight with the LZ 1 over Lake Constance near Friedrichshafen. Framepool presents a lot of unique archival filmclips that illustrate the history of the Zeppelins and in particular the tragedy of Lakehurst, where the airship LZ 129 exploded, thus terminating the age of the Zeppelins. This HD video clip shows the airship Hindenburg crossing over New York and the drama of its explosion when landing in Lakehurst airfield on 6 May 1937.
